One Ear Brand was founded by Osaka-based bandana expert Jonathan Lukasek.
The single-ear bandanas are made entirely in Japan using custom fabric and printed one at a time in a kimono-making factory in Kyoto, meaning each batch is slightly different.
They make amazing eco bags, face masks, scarves, furoshiki wrapping cloths, head wraps, and more. Japanese-American artist Yurika Cherise Shikai paints each piece using a bandana as a canvas.
Gakkin is a long-time friend and one of my favorite tattoo artists. His art style is unique and I'm always impressed.
For this collaboration, we decided on the theme of "withered flowers." His style is exclusively black and red, so it complements the bandana perfectly, as those are the two colors traditionally used for bandanas.
After receiving the artwork from Gakkin, I had Yurika add the details to perfect the design. This is One Ear Brand's first collaboration with a tattoo artist, and I think this design strikes a great balance between traditional bandanas from the 1800s and tattoo art. The design features a withered lotus and seeds.
This design is available in limited quantities only.

Gakkin is someone who I consider a friend. We have known each other for quite a long time. He is also one of my favorite tattoo artists. His art style is distinct and impressive. We decided on the theme of “dead flowers” for our collaboration. As he only uses black and red for his palette it works really nicely with bandannas. Traditionally these were the only colors used in bandannas. After receiving his artwork I asked Yurika to draw in the detail and we perfected the layout for this art. This being a first for One Ear Brand working with a tattoo artist, we really think this design has a great if not perfect balance of traditional 1800's era bandannas and tattoo art. Featuring a wilted lotus and seed pods. This design will be only available in limited quantities. Thanks again to Gakkin and Yurika for making this one happen.
