HORSE BUTT - ABOUT
The use of tannins contained in plants has long been known as a method of tanning leather. Leather that is finished using only tannins extracted from trees such as mimosa and chestnut is called "full vegetable tanning," and because no chemical processing is used, the color and texture deepen over time, highlighting the leather's natural texture. The more it is used, the more its appearance changes, developing into a unique shape that reflects the owner's lifestyle.
The oil penetrates deep into the fibers. Its appeal lies in the emphasis on the individuality of each piece rather than uniformity, and it has been valued since ancient times for both its practicality and aesthetic appeal.
In particular, when the part of a horse's buttocks, known as the "butt," which has a high fiber density, is tanned with tannins, it develops a strong firmness not found in other leathers.
This part is normally very hard, but by using the traditional Italian Vacchetta method to deeply penetrate the oil, it becomes a leather that is both supple and durable. Furthermore, the color and luster change over time, and the longer you use it, the more attractive it becomes.
